King 40 named Boat Of The Year 2009

The leading US magazine Sailing World has announced the King 40 by Summit Yachts as their 2009 Overall Boat of the Year. Topping the list of winners for Sailing World's 25th annual Boat of the Year contest was this IRC Racer/Cruiser from Mills Design, which won the award from an independent panel of experts who inspected and sailed the 17 nominated entries during the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis earlier this year.  Built by King Marine in Argentina, the King 40 has been a success on both sides of the Atlantic since its launch this spring.

Sailing World said “When SW's judges convened for their final deliberations after nearly a week of test sailing in Annapolis Md., there was little debate that the King 40, from Summit Yachts, is—from the keel to the top of its carbon rig—the quintessential raceboat… few boats we've seen and sailed can match the King 40 in terms of grand-prix performance at production-boat price. It's an ideal boat for windward/leeward racetracks and distance racing, and will reward a good crew and driver.”

Kings Cup Win for DK46 Quantum Racing

Ray Roberts’ unstoppable DK46 Quantum Racing team have won their second Kings Cup in a DK 46, fighting off strong competition in the champagne sailing conditions off Phuket last week.  Roberts came on strongly through the event to finish with a 1,1,2 to take the 22^nd Phuket Kings Cup Regatta title from her closest competitors the Custom 52 Hi Fidelity and the TP 52 Island Fling.  Standing on Kata Beach after his win Robert said, "we are very happy to win the King's Cup against such a high quality fleet"
 

Another victory in Thailand’s and perhaps Asia’s premier event makes for an impressive set of Kings Cup results for both owner and design: 3 wins for the DK 46 (Hull 02 Drumstick in 2005, 2006, and Hull 07 Quantum Racing in 2008), 3 wins for Ray Roberts of which 2 have been in two different DK46’s, to add to the unmatched record which led to Ray and Quantum Racing being crowned Asia Yachting 2007-08 Skipper and Yacht of the Year.
